The National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL) provides grants for teaching schools and National Leaders of Education (NLEs) , to support school improvement by working with underperforming maintained schools and academies. Typically schools who are in receipt of this funding are schools judged by Ofsted as requires improvement or inadequate.
As a Teaching School and National Support School, we have supported a number of local primary schools with specific areas for improvement, especially in raising standards in English and Maths variation. Currently we are leading an initiative through the Strategic School Improving Fund with over 25 Somerset Primary Schools working in delivering a bespoke training course aimed at raising standards in maths.
School Improvement is a collaborative endeavour to support this Alliance has a number of Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs) as well as 2 National Leaders of Education (NLEs) who are available to support in school. This may be class coaching, subject leader joing support and planning; INSET or staff meeting support amongst a range of activites.
We also have links to a National Leader of Governance (NLG) too who is available to support schools and their governing bodies.
A number of SLEs have been appointed to the Teaching School from Primary schools across the town. Each have been accredited by the National Teaching Council; their profiles and expertise can be found on our SLE's page.
